Do you bark a lot?

March 8th, 2010 by Dorcas

Today God gave me a vivid example of worrying and how it is a pointless waist of time!! This morning My little Jack Russel Carmel noticed something that set her to barking!! The neighbor two properties down is a crane rental place and sometimes they put the cranes up to check them and work on them! This morning there was a particularly large crane between her and her view of the mountain, now she just couldn’t have that~ and the barking began!! Just substitute worry for barking in the next part!! I=Carmel!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning I was just laying there soaking up the sun when I saw this awful Thing on the horizon!! We can not have that, what if it falls over and gets me!!!! Quickly I sat up and barked, I told them that this was not exceptable and they must remove it ASAP! But they didn’t listen, just made it go higher! I barked and barked but~ no avail!!! Ok maybe they didn’t hear me, let me get a little closer and bark louder!!! Oh GRRR, I’m getting hoarse and they still aren’t getting the point!! Maybe if I just Ignore it, It will go away, I’ll just turn my tail to it and pretend I’m barking at something else!!! Let me peak over my shoulder, Oh bother it is still there, Ok I guess I must bark again for a while~ Surely they will soon get the point! Ok they are really getting on my nerves, I’m going to tell my Lady about this, Oh good here she comes out of the big house right now!! What!!! she didn’t even look at the THING!!! She told me to calm down and went back in!!!! Oh my, I guess there is nothing left to do but sneak over there and bite a leg or two off….Well that wouldn’t be good, I’ll just bark some more!!  Oh what is this? It is slowly going down…..Oh yah……I’ll just bark a little more to make them feel guilty for ruining my view!!!! Yes it is still going down…..There it is gone, I’ll just bark a little more so they be sure to stay away!!!!  Take that you Ugly thing, and listen sooner next time!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I= Dorcas again!!

I had to laugh at her, she was so determined to chase it off, and was sure she had done her duty when it left!!  Her barking had no affect on the crane, Just as our worring doesn’t change life, just our view of it!!!  We should work hard to replace our worrying with Joy & Praying!!

A Quote I heard this Sunday, ~~ Joy is an energy producing power!!!! Think about that the next time you start to worry, Have some joy and pray:)) Have a great day Ladies!!

My dream is to create beautiful artwork for others to enjoy and take pleasure in. I am always looking for ways to push myself to greater perfection, and find such satisfaction in a well finished product!

Easy Wet Wipes

February 22nd, 2010 by Dorcas

I’m slightly past the wet wipe stage here, or so I thought!! I’m going to make these to have for clean-ups in the truck!

Wet Wipes~

First~ You will need heavy duty paper towel,  Bounty,  Brawny, or my favorite is the Blue heavy duty kind that you get in the vehicle section at Wal~mart. The blue stuff is strong and it feels like a soft cloth!!

2nd~  Get a sharp serrated edge knife, cut the paper towel roll in half, and remove the cardboard roll.

Do you have a  container?  An empty wet wipe container perchance? A rectangle shaped one or a tall round cylinder shape? Two containers is an even better idea, that way you will have a second one waiting when the first one empties, all you need to do is put the hot water mix on it when you are ready to use it!

If you have a round one you can try stuffing one half down inside and then using them from the center like the store bought ones, if this doesn’t work  use a margarine tub or ice cream bucket, just cut a small X in the lid to pull the wipes up through.

If you have an empty rectangular shape, it might be a little more work but this is my favorite way to do it. Why? because you can refill your small wipe packs in your diaper bag from the big container and they fit in your wipe warmer!! Pull all the Paper towel sheets off and fold them in half, which ever way fits in your container best. When your container is full pour half of the warm water mix over it, and them you can add more paper towels.

1 1/2 cups hot water

2 tablespoons of baby oil

1 tablespoon of your favorite baby wash!

Do you have a baby with sensitive skin? Just use what ever you give your baby a bath in.

~mix this well and pour over heavy duty paper towel.

You  need to flip your container over or roll it on its side with the lid on to be sure all the paper towel is wet.

I have not figured out the money savings on this…..has any one else figured that out? Be sure to let us know.

If you are even more money/trash conscious,  double this recipe and fold your washable wipes in the rectangle shaped wipe box.   After you wash them place them under the wet ones. you may need add more moisture, as needed.

We have washable wipes at our store, Click the “shop mommy made it” button in the top left hand corner and you will find the wipes in the children section. Andrea makes them in boy, girl, or gender neutral!  Remember our price already has the shipping figured in:))

If you are using your washable wipes when you are out on the town you will also need a

wet Baggie to put the used ones in till you get home:) We also carry these in the children section, you can choose from a variety of colors.

The wet baggies are washable.

Thank you for reading and supporting us here at A Mommy Made It!!

Dorcas

PS;) I’m going to do a little figuring on what the washable wipes would save vs reg wet wipes~ I just might do this for our truck spill kit~ See comment section!

Cheap Laundry Detergent

February 19th, 2010 by Dorcas

Ok y’all I’m trying it!!!!!

I made my own detergent yesterday!!

I Bought the:

GV brand powder detergent = 8.99

Arm & Hammer Washing Soda= 2.55

Borax = 3.79

I brought it home and mixed them in a Large Tupperware container ( note to self  mix outside next time)

I did my wash Yesterday with this and it worked great.

I also bought white vinegar to try for softener = 2.25

& Lemon scented Ammonia for tough loads!! = 1.29

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Few Of The Bonuses of the cleaners.
………………………………………………….
Arm & Hammer Washing Soda~~
1. Increases your detergents cleaning power.
2. Neutralizes & eliminates odor instead of covering it with a perfume!
…………………………………………………………
20 Mule Team Borax
1. It is a booster & Brightener.
2. It is a water conditioner, Good idea if you have hard water.
…………………………………………………………….
Ammonia
1. Use 1/2 of your normal Detergent
2. Cuts Hard grease.
……………………………………..
White Vinegar
1. Is a great softener,
2. does not leave any odor.
………………………………………
BTW I purchased all of this except the white vinegar in the cleaning aisle of my local Martins/Giant grocery store!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I’m hoping I will not miss my old favorite, Arm & Hammer Detergent!!

Instead of 145 loads for 15.oo(.10/load) I have aprox 350 loads for 15.33(.04/load)

and My softener instead of being 8.89 for Downy is 2.25 for white vinegar!!!

All these above mentioned cleaners have more than one use!!!!! Have you tried any kind of home made cleaner?

My next one is going to be Olive Oil for my wood floors!!

Have a great Day!!

Mama’s Simple Solutions

Hi!  My name is Andrea.  I am a Work-at-Home-Mom from Va.  I am passionate about cloth diapers.  My son, Sean (1), loves his own cloth diapers and cries when I put disposables on him to go to “Papaw & Nana’s house” in PA.

Sean loves when Mama is at home and he likes to play “in the sewing room while Mama sews pretty diapers”!

Sewing is therapeutic for me.  When I have a stressful day—you Moms out there all know about stressful days—I can sew a handful of diapers and the stress evaporates!

My goal is to provide you with a quality product that is fun, easy and affordable.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andrea has a line of cloth diapers here at our store!! We are excited to be able to offer this “green” alternative to disposable diaper, and help a Stay at home Mom!!
Andrea has everything you need to outfit your diaper bag, from wet wipes, wet diaper baggie, pocket diapers, pre-folds, & diaper covers!! To see Andrea’s products click on the ” Shop Mommy Made” button in the upper left hand corner. All of Andrea’s products are under the children Button!! Just Look for her name!!
Please comment back and let Andrea know what you think of her diapers!!! Also  share our link with a friend who may be interested in cloth diapering!!
Don’t forget to see Andrea’s three part post here on how to chose the best diapering system for you!
Have a great Day!!
